This is just a test to see if all emails are working, please confirm that you have received.

I am the owner of “Tracy Ann” the boat that Jerry, Brian and Ritchie are sailing to Hawaii, Jerry have supplied me with

your email addresses  and I have promised to keep you all informed of the latest onboard as I will be

talking to the Guys via satellite phone at least every second day.

You will all get the last position taken and the condition of boat and crew as well as other messages

they give me.

( none has been given to me at this time, as they left less than 24 hrs ago, I spoke to them yesterday

as they passed ANACAPA and was given their first waypoint, 29deg N 130deg W )

I am also the “weather man” along with Greg, today they are having light winds 5-12 KNTS with 4-6 ft

swells, 64 Deg F air temp and 66 deg F water temp. doesn’t get any better, and it looks like it will

stay this way the rest of the week in their path.

Below are data collected from a buoy approximately 100 miles ahead of them.

I know they will have the time of their life and wish I could be there with them, as a pacific crossing

is one of the ultimate experiences in sailing, especially going that way, all downwind and down swell,

sailing into the tropical warm weather and waters.

Our temperature in Hawaii right now is 80 deg.F Water temp and a 80-86 deg.F air temp With a light

breeze.

Just got off the phone with Jerry, they haven’t got very far .

Their current position is 33° 14’ 462” N  119° 55’ 249” W at 1 pm (PST)  ( or just south of Santa Monica ), the fog is thick and almost feels

like rain, but their spirit is great.

Their average speed has been 2-3 KNTS with wind no higher than 7-8 KTS, I advised them to head further offshore to get out of the Fog and catch

a little more wind.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

9/27/07

Aloha all

Today’s update from Jerry, Brian and Ritchie onboard Tracy Ann at 12 NOON PST

Their current position is  32° 35’ 55” N 123° 48’ 630”  W

They are in lot better spirit today as they have got wind in the sails now, current conditions are  64°F , wind 12-14 KNTS with an average speed

of 4-5 KNTS.

Total distance traveled 199 miles, a lot better than yesterdays 70 miles.

------------------------------------------------------------------

9/28/07

Friday 9-28-07

Just got off the phone with the guys.

They had a little scare earlier this morning as they hit an unexpected gust and wasn’t quite prepared for it, They are now prepared and ready

for the next gust when it happens.

The current wind is 15 KTS with Gusts up 25 KTS average boat speed is 5-6 KNTS , 6-8’ swells

They are 30 miles off curse but are correcting that over the next 24 hours, .

They sound like they are starting to get their Sea legs and starting to enjoy the trip more.

Their current Position is 32° 5’ 574” N 122° 57’ 600” W ( in line with the US/Mexican Boarder )

My guess is with the current wind and speed their arrival in Hawaii will be 14-18 days after departure.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

9/29/07

The guys are now 430 miles offshore off the coast of Mexico , there is a tropical depression, named fourteen E ( don’t know who came up with

a name like that ? ) 16deg south east of them but it does not look like it will be of any concern to them at all as they are going the other direction,

I will be tracking it and inform them of any changes. Other than that no big changes in the weather are predicted for their position and course.

They are all in good spirit and are starting to see the change in the ocean and are getting into the trade-winds that will bring them to Hawaii

They have met a couple of big ships out there so they are not all alone.

They have a minor rip in the Genoa from the 25-30 Knot wind they unexpectedly hit yesterday morning, but will repair today (That’s if they

can find a sail loft out there that’s open on a Saturday ) or change out to another sail, no other damage was reported. Capt. Jerry reports

that the boat is a safe boat and she handles the “beatings” really well and as long as they can hang on she will get them to Hawaii safely

( nice to hear that they have confidence in the stability of the boat )

Now that they have their “sea-legs” they can move around again, they are telling me the seas are enormous out there, but that is normal for

the Pacific ( 8-12 ft seas this time of the year )

Their average speed over the past 24 hours has been a little over 5 KTS with a good 125miles traveled since yesterday and another 17-1800 to go,

keep that up and they will be surfing in Hawaii soon.

Current position is 31° 37’ 55” N 125° 21’ 11” W. An on course to their next planned waypoint ( 29° N 130°W )

I HAVE ATTACHED A PDF FILE OF THEIR PLOTTED COURSE AND POSITION, JUST FOR YOUR FUN SO YOU CAN SEE WHERE IN THE

WORLD THEY ARE, HAWAII IS LOCATED IN BOTTOM LH CORNER. The tropical Storm isn’t even on the map yet and I don’t think it will last

long enough to get on the map, as it moves further north into colder waters it will diminish, so don’t worry.

A special thank you to Greg Rudzinski from Oxnard who is keeping an eye on the weather as well, thanks Greg and keep in touch, I really

appreciate your input.

The Captain and Crew onboard Tracy Ann Sends their love and aloha.

I will keep you all informed next time I hear from the Boat, usually every 24hrs or Noon local time

( that would be the local boat time, right now about 1PM PST or 10AM HST )

Over and out from Maui Hawaii

----------------------------------------------------

9/30/07

Tropical storm Juliette is moving north and will dissipate in the next 72 hrs, and far from our guys, will keep watching, but do not have any concern.

The weather forecast for the next 2-3 days at their position is East-Northeast Trade winds 15-20 KNTS, it doesn’t get any better than this.

Their Current Position is 31° 15’ 94” N - 126° 56’ 77” W (540 miles West of Mexico) at a curse of 230° , max. Speed 4-5 knots.

They are in a high right now and are hoping for a little more wind, total distance traveled last 24 hours was 84 miles

They lost power last night and found that #1 battery had little or no charge, they switched to # 2 battery and are looking for the bad connection

or maybe a fuse from the wind generator.

All at great spirit and glad to get in calmer water and warmer weather with following seas.

I will keep in touch

------------------------------------------------------------

10/1/07

The guys are still in a high pressure today with 10-12 Knots in the sails, 3-4 KNTS average speed, but are having a great time, it’s still a little cold

at night time but 75°-80° during the day. The water temp is getting into the 70’s so they are getting closer to Hawaii .

They were talking about flying the spinnaker today to get moving a little faster, but will wait until they get a little more steady wind direction and

wind speed, the last thing they need to do is to heel over the boat too far and have water all over the place.

They caught their first two fish today ( and lost a 3rd  ) both over 25 LBS, so I guess they are having fish tonight (I forgot to ask what kind, but more

 than likely Tuna/albacore ).

Their current Position is 30° 41’ 31” N 128° 30’ 59” W  or 624 Miles W off the coast of Mexico, they will try to motor down and see if they can find

better trade-winds a few degrees further down, the day they have the trade winds at stern is THE day.

They traveled a total of 88 miles during the past 24 hrs.

They have got the battery power up and running again, they seem to think that they have been using too much and will try to conserve energy

a little better, remember at 10-15 knot winds the batteries barely gets enough charge to run the refrigeration, so lights at night when there is no

 wind is an unnecessary luxury.

The tropical Storm Juliette is getting smaller, but I will keep watching, it should be gone in a few days.

-------------------------------------------------------

10/2/07

The guys are having fun and sound more and more relaxed every day, they are becoming the fishing pros of the pacific, they hooked up a 1

50LBS+ Tuna last night

They fought it for over 4 hours and got it up next to the boat but she spit the lure at last minute.

Their current position is 30° 6’ 74” N 129° 59’ 19” W or 721 miles W of Mexico, total traveled last 24 hrs was 84 miles, but they are finally in

 the steady trades.

They are going downwind today, wing on wing 5-6 KNTS so I guess today is the day from here on it is all gravy and more speed.

The tropical depression off Mexico is dissipating and no longer a concern.

They are still trying to sow up the Genoa and are at the moment running a regular size headsail.

Genoa or Spinnaker would definitely speed up the boat.

All for today

------------------------------------------------------------

10/3/07

Just a quick update for today from the guys, they are still in the trades wing n’ wing with winds ranging from 8-20 at stern

They have been hit by road waves a few times the past couple of days, last night Jerry had a shower and a bath at the same time as a wave came

over the boat and filled the cockpit and part of the cabin, but they seem to enjoy it and baths are hard to come by out there.  No fish yet today.

They were doing choirs and maintenance today as they were bored, nothing to do other than eat and fish ( not a bad life )

Their current position is N 29° 20. 70” – W 132° 8.30” or 900 Miles off Baja, 1380 miles from Hawaii  ( closing up on the ½ way mark and closing

up on 8 days into the journey ) with a total of 120 miles traveled in the past 24 hours not bad as they are sailing with a regular size headsail,

when the repair is complete on the Genoa they will increase their headsail area 30-40%, they are still a little scared of the Spinnaker so they

haven’t tried it yet, but that would give them twice as much power as the headsail alone and at least another 1-2 knots in speed.

Attached a chart in PDF for your fun, don’t know if you are getting them as they are big for a slow connection

Until tomorrow

-----------------------------------------------------------------

10/4/07

Quick update for today, the guys traveled another 117 miles the last 24 hours, ETA at this time is Oct 14 or 15.

Their Current position is N 28° 39’ 97”  W 134° 14’ 47” the Trades are blowing a nice 12-20 NE with 8-10 ft seas.

They have hooked a few sailfish , but haven’t got one on the boat yet

----------------------------------------------------

10/5/07

Just got of the phone with Jerry, they are doing great and are considering starting fishing for a living. The caught 7 Mahi ( Dolphin fish )

1 150 LBS Tuna and a small sail fish this morning, they kept 2 mahi for dinner and let the others go ( how much fish can you eat in a day )

The trades winds are blowing 20-25, and they went trough 3 or 4 little storms or waterspouts last night with gusts up to 35-40, so they are

getting their sailing experience in all kinds of weather.

They are telling me that they are not bored yet, between the fishing and all the work there is to do daily.

Their current position is N 28° 14. 64” – W 136° 31. 9” with 123 miles traveled last 24 hours, my guess stands on ETA in Honolulu 10/15

They are approx 1145 miles from Hawaii , 980 miles from Oxnard , 1170 off Baja ( all in birds eye view ), so in the next 24 hours they will

be close to the halfway mark, in miles traveled they are past the halfway mark.

I lost connection with the satellite phone so I didn’t get to tell them that Greg told me to let them know to look for Jupiter tonight as it would

be showing at port Bow, I hope they see it anyway, the scenery offshore is way different than on land, even the sunset and sunrise,

and the freeways are less crowded too.

Aloha From Maui

---------------------------------------------------------------------

10/6/07

The Pacific sailors have made to the halfway mark and if the speed is kept they will be in Hawaiian waters next weekend.

They traveled 110 miles the past 24 Hours, Trade winds 20-25 KNTS with 10-12 ft swells both from North east.

The guys are telling me that they are starting to feel the pain from sailing downwind for a lengthy period of time, constantly hanging

on to the wheel , surfing down the huge swells.

According to the onboard GPS the ETA is Next Sat. Night in Hawaiian waters maybe another day to the Harbor.

Current position at 10 AM Hawaiian Standard Time was 27° 54’ 14” N - 138° 34’ 72” W ( that is within a few miles of Halfway )

I will keep you posted.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

10/7/07

Another 121 miles traveled last 24 hrs, they were way off curse the last 3 days but have corrected it this morning with a new curse of 231°

Their current position is N 27° 29” 61”  W 140° 48’ 30”

Current wind is steady 20-25Knot Trade wind out of the North East, sailing downwind with double headsail and full main.

9-12 Ft swells NE.

They are working on catching that Tuna for Sashimi, but are having trouble keeping the lure deep enough into the water due to the high seas,

I suggested that one of them should grab the leader and jump in to keep it deep, but they didn’t go for that ☺, Jerry and Brian were thinking

about Motoring backwards for a while to keep the lure in deep, but I think they were joking.

We discussed return tickets today and I will be looking into availability the next few days, but will have to wait until they get a little closer so

we can predict the arrival date more precise.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

10/8/07

Current position Is n 26° 34’ 0” W 142° 23’ 95” and back on track again with 102 miles traveled the last 24 hours and 800 left to Hawaii or

1275 from Oxnard

All is well onboard, They were sailing with the “steel sail” when I spoke to them as they had no wind at all, ( steel sail is the engine )

it sound like they have too much time on their hands out there to come up with names like this.

Hoping to get some wind this afternoon

---------------------------------------------------------------------

10/9/07

Current position of the Tracy Ann is 25° 44’ 25” N - 144° 7’ 93” W with a 106 miles traveled the past 24 Hrs.

Their next waypoint is 21°44’ 25”N - 144° 7’ 93”W where they have Diamondhead on their starboard and make a turn along the coast with

  Honolulu an their starboard side.

No wind the last few days so the motor gets a work out, but plenty of fuel left.

ETA at this rate will be in 6-8 Days , or more precise Mon/Wednesday 15th or 17th . Today is the 14 day mark for their departure date,

sure they will be looking forward to a shower by now.

They still haven’t caught that Tuna yet, but they are determined to get one before they get here.

--------------------------------------------------------

10/10/07

Current Position of The boys is N 25° 22’ 85” W 144° 53’ 43”  with 94 miles on the clock the past 24 hours and another 700 to go.

The Guys were a little down today as there is no wind at all, they were sitting dead in the water and had been since last night.

They have 50% fuel left in the tank, but need to keep that for daily battery charging as they are not generating any power without the wind.

They are currently averaging 1 KNOT, and are out of the Trade wind as they are telling me that they have headwind.

I will try to find them some tailwind they can motor into but it doesn’t look too promising the next 48 hours at least.

At the current speed they will arrive in 2 weeks, hope they catch fish, as they will be out of supplies by then.

At least they still have plenty water and enough food for another week+ any fish they may catch

I believe they have enough fuel to motor 3-400 miles, but they MUST conserve that for charging for the entire trip, as loosing power can be

catastrophic they need the radios, phone and navigation equipment not to mention the running lights.

I WILL FIND THEM SOME WIND SOMEWHERE, AND VERY RARELY DO THE TRADE WINDS STOP FOR MORE THAN A DAY OR TWO.

-----------------------------------------------------

10/11/07

Current Position of the Tracy Ann N 24°52’ 55”  W 146° 19’ 30 , or 875 miles from Diamond head Honolulu

Good news today as they are having 15-20 knot winds and we have redirected the boat out of a weak ridge moving south.

The wind looks good and steady for the next couple of days.

The “bad” news for the day is that the transmission blew out a bearing,  they have no engine power for the remaining part of the trip,

they can still use the engine to charge the batteries but cannot spin the prop.

They are all in good spirit as the wind have picked up again, but are still 4-6 day out at least especially with no engine power.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

10/12/07

The Current Position of Tracy Ann is 24° 22’ 39” N  -  147° 52’ 16” with 90 miles traveled the past 24 hours and 580 to Go.

The have earned every mile traveled the last day, currently flying the spinnaker doing 3 KNTS.

A tropical storm is located 1000 miles east of them and pushing rain and thunderstorms their way, but not enough wind I suppose.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

10/13/07

The Boys have set a “new record” the last 24 Hrs, they have traveled all of 36 miles that would be 1.5 miles an hour, a turtle would outrun them.

They are enjoying the warm waters 79-80°, swimming alongside the boat, or maybe overtaking the boat. I told them to grab a line and tow it

forward, sure would be faster.

I hope they don’t try to dive to the bottom as the dept is close to 3000 feet???

Their current position is N 24° 3’ 639”  W 148° 25’ 807” with around 540 miles to Honolulu .

We are hoping for wind, and according to satellites and predictions there should be 10-15 KNTS, but we are having trouble finding it I guess,

with their current curse they should get wind tonight or tomorrow.

They still haven’t found out what happened to the transmission, but it seems like the shaft is frozen, and nothing happens when it goes in gear,

so to me it sounds like a bearing or something like that, but either or we cannot get parts out there, they will try to dive to inspect the prop later today, since they have nothing else to do.

I have arranged a boat upon their arrival in Honolulu, and will be meeting them a few miles offshore and tow them into the harbor ,  without

engine they will not be able to dock the boat themselves.

They are all at Great Spirit, enjoying the warm Pacific weather and waters, but are starting to get a little anxious to make landfall and have a

 REAL shower.

TO Tammy and Margie, I told Brian and Ritchie to call home to discuss travel plans, so let me know what the outcome is so I can book the

flights ( with the speed they are doing at the moment sometime before Christmas I guess )

----------------------------------------------------------------------

10/14/07

Current Position of Tracy Ann is N 23° 57’ 476 W 146° 05’421” with another 503 miles to Diamond Head

The Crew made a decision yesterday to alter the course and try and find a little wind, they deviated 30-40 miles from planned course,

and actually went backwards and found a steady 5-6 miles per hour wind, currently going downwind with the spinnaker full of air,

yesterday they couldn’t even fill that with air.

They have been completely surrounded by black clouds and thunderstorm for the last few days, and it seems like that is what is keeping them

away from the wind according to Jerry, and every time they try and go into the clouds, the clouds just move.

The weather per satellites and ship reports show 20KNTS or less, but the guys are there and knows more about what the actual weather is.

They are all in Great Spirit but are starting to show fatigue from being on the ocean this long ( it will be 3 weeks on Tuesday )

Jerry had the gear box apart yesterday and found the problem, the shifter has something missing/broken inside and he is not able to

temporary fix or manually engage the gear, so they are left with the wind, glad to know it is a sailboat.

I plotted a course for them as an entry point to Oahu so they stay in the wind and away from commercial harbor entrances and military

security areas, which there are several of along the coast outside Pearl Harbor and Honolulu,

Its important that they keep the boat in the wind and moving in the channel as it is too deep to anchor and they have no engine power

to get back in the wind

They still have 500 miles to go, but at least they have something to talk about and plan the “in flight”

They were talking about what to do today and I believe they were trying to find out how to water ski behind a sailboat moving 2 miles

 an hour (without skies)

( they must be bored )

Also a correction from yesterday where I mentioned they were diving in 3000 Ft, well it is actually 3000 fathoms, same as 18000 feet.

They are 3-500 miles behind schedule, but hopefully they will get some nice trade winds the last 4-5 days, I expect them to arrive by

 the end of next week.????????

Well I said that last week too, but I think as soon as they get under that 500mile mark (which seem to be a problem) they will fly the

rest of the way, the Trade winds are blowing steady here in the Islands and have been the last few months.

I believe the record time for a sailboat from CA to HI was in a Transpac Race from Newport to Honolulu in 4-5 days by a catamaran,

so I guess Tracy Ann won’t go into the hall of fame on this trip.

In 2004 I was helping Lahaina Yacht Club in a Race from BC to Maui, and all the boats was in a similar situation with no wind

for days, The first boat arrived after 12 days and the last boat arrived 29 days later, the crew was dressed in Santa outfits as they entered

the harbor, and they swore they will never eat tuna again, they were relaying totally on catching fish and did not bring any supplies

(other than Rum and water ).

At least our guys still have good food and a fridge that works, according to Jerry they still have ice and frozen food.

TO Tammy, I know Brian called you yesterday, hope you feel better now after hearing his voice and knowing he is OK ,

three weeks is a long time and it looks like we are going to # 4.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

10/15/07

GREAT NEWS they are moving again, at 5 knots average and over 100 miles traveled last 24 hours, at this rate they will be in

Hawaii within the next 3-4 days

Their current location is N 23° 36’ 476” W 146° 5’ 421” and back on their original course.

They caught a massive 45LBS Mahi ( Dolphin fish ) early this morning, so I guess every thing has changed for the better overnight.

Tomorrow will be day 21 at sea, and only a few more to go as there is less than 400 miles to entry into Hawaiian water, or in to Kaiwi

channel between Molokai and Oahu, the entry into the channel may be the most challenging sailing for the entire trip and it is known for its

big and close swells and wind from all directions, but I am sure that is nothing for 3 salty guys.

A friend of mine from California describe his first entry into Kaiwi channel during a Transpac race as flying and sailing a submarine

at the same time with the entire crew hanging off the stern to try and stabilize the boat as it would plunge down these huge swells,

but I guess that’s called racing.

The weather looks steady for the next few days, so we hope to see them in 3-5 days

The guys send their Aloha, and can’t wait to make landfall.

----------------------------------------------------------------

10/16/07

Current Position Of Tracy Ann is N 22° 48’ 074” -  W 152° 35’ 524” with another 100 miles traveled in the past 24 HRS.

At 10 AM HST they had 297 miles to go to next waypoint in the middle of the channel and from there 27miles to the harbor.

The weather is steady at the moment and looks like it will stay that way.

At the current speed they will make landfall sometime Friday afternoon subject to wind speed along the shore of Oahu ,

sometimes we loose wind the last 10 miles before the harbor as that is located on the leeward side.

They should be starting to see the outline of the Islands sometime tomorrow afternoon or Thursday morning if the visibility is good.

They are really becoming great sailors trying their best to increase the speed so they can get there faster,  still flying the spinnaker

and whatever else they can dress her with, hope the don’t use their underwear as sail too ( quite a picture )

I will keep you posted for a few more days but will check out Thursday as I will be flying to Honolulu to pick up a boat so I can meet

them outside the harbor and tow them in.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

10/17/07

The current Position of the Tracy Ann is N 22° 4’ 655”  W 154° 35’ 720”  with around 160miles to Diamond head or 210 miles to the slip.

They are starting to get exited to get here, they hooked up something big this morning, don’t know what it was but it eat a lure and the 80LB

test leader.

ETA is at this time sometime Friday, I will update you all one last time tomorrow and will know their ETA a little better.

Friday morning their cell phones should have regular service, that is if they have them turned on.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

10/18/07

This will be the last email you receive from me as I will be leaving
Maui
to meet the boat and tow it into the slip.
The total days at sea has been 24 days tomorrow, 6-9 days longer than expected, so I am sure they are
 looking forward to see land.

Current position of the Tracy Ann is N 21° 33’ 634”  W 156° 22’ 720” with 104 miles traveled past 24
hrs and about the same to go ETA is 6-7 AM tomorrow morning, maybe earlier, cell phones should work as
of tonight as they come around Oahu.

They have the view of Molokai and
Maui
at port about 15 miles away and starting to make the turn into Keiwi channel.

I was told they cant wait to get away from each other after this long, Ritchie and Brian are smokers
and they ran out of cigarettes 4 days ago, amazing no one has killed each other yet.

They are most definitely happy to see land; one can only imagine what 24 days at sea will do to you,
and without cigarettes, maybe I should bring them a few patches now they are doing so “good” being
 non smokers.

I feel I was part of the trip by talking to the crew daily and have tried my best to make you feel
the same way by relaying what I was told daily, good or bad, I am sure there is more to the story
than we have been told so let the crew tell their own version of the story when they return to CA.

Maybe they will do this again, or maybe they will never set foot on a boat again?

Brian is returning to
Oxnard
Tuesday, Jerry and Ritchie has no travel plans yet, and will be enjoying

Hawaii

for an unknown period of time.
Below are the forecast for Hawaiian waters for the next two days;, and it looks like an arrival in style,
15-20 Knots steady trade winds. They should be flying around diamond-head and past
Waikiki
with Tracy Ann fully dressed in all she has.
